We’re Theo + Theresa Morrison, a Portland, Oregon-based photography duo specializing in lifestyle, travel, portraits — and weddings! We met on set as photo and styling assistants in 2008 and partnered in life and work soon after. Working commercially over the years for magazines and brands, we began to photograph weddings through word of mouth. As hopeless romantics, we relish the opportunity to document a time that holds so much meaning for a couple and their community. Making images for couples and families is a tremendously rewarding way for us to share our skills.

We believe in the power of images to communicate wordlessly the intricacies of love and connection. Our style is documentary with an editorial eye. Whether capturing moments as they unfold or setting up scenarios, we're committed to authenticity— elevating truth with style. In everything we make, we search for several key ingredients: genuine emotion, magic light, dynamic composition, the beauty of the environment, caught moments, and a sense of mystery. We bring the same storytelling aesthetic to weddings that we use when photographing travel and editorials. We come to each project with a sense of curiosity, exploration, and connection, and a high bar for superb quality of camaraderie, capture and craftsmanship.

In the words of Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We make it a priority to put you at ease, to be present, available, grounded, and humorous (when appropriate). Certain wedding images can bring tears to our eyes — even ten years after making them — not only because of their beauty, but because they successfully call up an extraordinary experience that we took part in. When Ayni and I started planning our wedding, there were two things that we knew that we needed to have. 1.) A great DJ to create an atmosphere that our guests would never forget. 2.) A great photographer to create images that would help us never forget.

We had met The Morrisons (Theo and Theresa) at our friend’s destination wedding the year before we got engaged. Knowing that we wanted to get married at a remote location down a dirt road on the outskirts of La Paz, Mexico, we immediately thought about how seamlessly The Morrisons had blended in with all of the guests, but also how brilliantly they were able to capture the essence of the whole destination and multiple events.

Wedding photographers end up being called on to do a lot more than just take photos on the actual wedding day. They do some wedding planner activities, like making sure that the right family photos are being captured and that the bride and groom are where they are when they need to be there. They also end up spending a lot of time with the bride and groom before the ceremony in a pretty intimate and venerable time that is usually only shared with close family and friends.

The Morrisons spent a handful of days with us down on the Sea of Cortez and produced a bunch of stunning images that we will cherish forever. Their attitude and demeanor were amazing, and we felt like we had known them for years. They went above and beyond capturing quiet moments of reflection on the morning of our ceremony, capturing the hidden joys of us getting ready with our closest friends, reproducing the grandeur of the space and the love of the ceremony through images, stealing my wife and I away for a private shoot between the ceremony and the reception and then bringing the party to life with a lot of creative techniques.

We were so lucky to have the Morrisons shoot our wedding and can not recommend them highly enough. So, book that DJ and make sure that you have Theo and Theresa there to capture that first dance.
